DECATUR – (WAOK/AJC) - A DeKalb county woman has been sentenced to 43 years in prison in the so called Georgia Powers scam. Prosecutors say 36 year old Santee Roberts used a phone registered to ‘Georgia Powers,’ then misrepresented herself as calling on behalf of the utility company, demanding that customers make payments, or face the disconnection of service. Investigators say she preyed on the elderly, making threats and coercing them to send cash or credit card information, which she used for her own personal gain. She was convicted under Georgia’s RICO act, as well as charges of identity and financial transaction fraud, plus charges of elderly exploitation. Roberts must serve at least 20 years of her sentence behind bars.
