ATLANTA (WAOK)—Mayor Kasim Reed delivers the first set of new recycling carts today in Southwest Atlanta.
Mayor Reed started a recycling initiative called “Cartlanta,” which offers all solid waste residential customers a new recycling cart, in attempts to make a “citywide effort to improve recycling.” Customers do not need to request the new recycling carts.
“One of my goals as mayor is to see Atlanta become a top tier city for sustainability,” said Mayor Reed. “Recycling is an important step towards that goal, as we make Atlanta a greener place to live, work and play. Rolling out these new large capacity recycling carts will make it easier for residents to recycle more.”
Wanda Smith, from our sister station V-103, accompanied Mayor Reed today on October 15th to deliver carts in the SW Atlanta area. Mayor Reed plans to deliver over 65,000 new recycling carts until the end of the year. The recycling carts will be delivered at a rate of 1000 per day.
