It’s easy to see why the Camry is so popular.   “No surprises.”

Yes…while this fairly-basic, under $24,000 Camry had no leather, no moonroof, and no alloys, it also had no surprises.   A few good surprises, maybe, but no bad surprises.

And that’s a good thing when it comes to living with a vehicle for an extended period of time, wouldn’t you agree?

The Camry LE is one of the “modest” Camrys…with models ranging from the base “L” to the “LE”, the “SE”, and the top-of-the-line XLE.

The surprise is how well the “LE” is appointed.   It has an attractive three-color fabric interior to start….and that extra stripe of color adds greatly to the LE’s appearance.

Power is supplied by a 178 HP 2.4 liter 4-cylinder and a 6-speed automatic.

A V-6 is available on the top-of-the line models and it’ll get you and additional 90 HP….and cost you a couple of miles per gallon.

Now…while the 4-cylinder probably wouldn’t be your first choice if you were taking a brisk drive into the North Georgia mountains, how many of us really do that anyhow?

In, on the other hand, you’re interested in low-drama commuting to work…the Camry LE is going to be hard to beat.   EPA ratings give the Camry a 25 – 35 MPG rating.   You’d have to drive the Camry really hard to get 25.   And that’s where we got another one of those good surprises.  We averaged in the low 30’s on the highway and the high 20’s around town.   And in what is an average sized 5-passenger car today, that’s excellent mileage.

The Camry LE comes with an impressive array of safety and convenience features, including 10 airbags, anti-lock brakes with smart-stop tech, tire-pressure monitoring systems, 60 / 40 split folding rear seats to help haul bulky items, a 6.1” touch screen, Bluetooth, and a tilting and telescoping steering wheel.

Our only options to the LE were a $440 power drivers’ seat and a $225 carpet  and trunk mat set…bringing the total sticker to $23,925.

With the average new vehicle transaction price running just a hair north of 30 thousand these days, an attractive and reliable vehicle selling for almost 2/3’s of that average price is a happy thing, indeed.
