BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — Georgia’s attorney general is being asked to appoint an outside prosecutor to handle the case of a Brunswick judge charged with aggressive driving.

The Brunswick News reports Glynn County solicitor Maria Lugue has written to Attorney General Sam Olens, saying she’s recusing herself from the case.

Brunswick Municipal Judge Andrew Lakin faces misdemeanor aggressive driving charges. Glynn County police say he aggressively followed a woman on local roads Aug. 24.

Lugue says the case should be handled by outsiders because Glynn County has a small, close-knit legal community. All judges in the Brunswick Judicial Circuit have been disqualified from hearing the case under a state ethics opinion. A Magistrate Court judge from Effingham County was appointed to handle Lakin’s initial arrest warrant.
