So, so, so much going on, I didn’t get a chance to tell you about my Wednesday at the DNC. It completely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Started out at the GA Delegation Breakfast at the hotel with speakers like EPA Chief Lisa Jackson, GA Senator Stacy Abrams (also my Spelman Sister) and more. We received instructions about the day and where to be for roll call at the Arena. Then we took our official delegation and Spelman College grad picture. Spelman is representing in Charlotte!
I then headed to the Convention Center to hear the First Lady address the African American Caucus. She was amazing, of course. She discussed how close the battleground states will be and the need for everyone to find a person and register them to vote and make sure they vote.
Next, I went to the BET Luncheon being hosted by BET President and CEO, Debra Lee. What a fantastic event. When I walked in, here are just a few of the people I saw. Micheal Eric Dyson, Pollster Cornell Belcher, Governor Deval Patrick of MA, Roland Martin, Actress Lynn Whitfield, Judge Joe Brown and Debra Lee. Our own Mayor of Atlanta, Kasim Reed arrived to sit on a panel hosted by BET’s newest talent, TJ Holmes who is premiering his new TV show, Don’t Sleep! He’s so cute (hehehehe). White House Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett was there too bringing greetings from President Obama. The panel convened and topics like voter suppression and voter education were discussed. It was a wonderful event.
Finally, last stop for the afternoon, I went to Congressman Mel Watts of NC home for a private day party. Walking in the door, I ran into Rep. Maxine Waters and Rep. Barbara Lee. I love these female politicians holding it down in Congress! Mel Watts spoke and then we had a chance to say hello. I also ran into NY Rep. Gregory Meeks. The backyard of Rep. Watts home was the size of a tennis court. Must be nice being in Congress. Hmmm……..next blog…..President Bill Clinton at the Arena.
