Atlanta (WAOK)-The City of Atlanta is set to welcome more than 75,000 visitors in town over the Labor Day weekend to celebrate the 16th Annual Atlanta Black Gay Pride weekend. Atlanta Black Pride organizers say the annual gathering in Atlanta is the World’s largest black gay pride event, attracting LGBT people of color from all over the world.
Pride weekend activities will include a host of seminars, workshops, voter empowerment events and community discussions including the 6th Annual State of Black America summit where MSNBC contributor Keith Boykin will serve a special guest to discuss the upcoming Presidential Elections. There will be several large entertainment events featuring artists like Melanie Fiona and Elle Varner.
One of the weekend’s highlights will be the 1st Annual Pure Heat Community Festival taking place on Sunday, September 2nd at Piedmont Park, where an estimated 10,000 people will be attending the free festival. Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed said he is pleased to see the city taking an interest in this year’s black pride celebrations. Pride organizers estimate that the weekend’s attendees will add millions of dollars into Atlanta’s local economy and tax revenue over the Labor Day weekend.
In addition to the Black Gay Pride events, Atlanta will also host two major college football games at the Georgia Dome, the annual DragonCon conference, the Ludacris Weekend events including celebrity basketball game and several concerts including the 3rd annual One Musicfest.
