Chad Johnson is saying thanks to fans for throwing him a line. The former Ochocinco has been weathering a rough week that began with his arrest last weekend for domestic violence. In a Twitter post this week, the football wide receiver wrote, “I haven’t had to tread water in a long time….special thank you to my fans… family… friends for keeping me afloat.” Johnson’s arrest on Saturday prompted the Miami Dolphins to drop him from the team on Sunday. His termination was shown on Tuesday night’s episode of HBO’s “Hard Knocks” in which Johnson is seen pleading with Dolphins coach Joe Philbin to allow him to remain with the team. He also apologizes for embarrassing the organization and his teammates.
Johnson’s arrest also prompted VH1 to cancel his reality series “Ev and Ocho.” The series, which was scheduled to premiere next month, chronicled the lead up to Johnson’s July 4th wedding to Evelyn Lozada, who has since filed for divorce. The football player took yet another hit on Wednesday when coconut water brand Zico announced it was nixing its endorsement deal with Johnson in light of the recent events.
