ATLANTA (AP/WAOK)- Atlanta Public Schools officials say they will add more bus routes and stops after criticism by parents that students had to walk too far, which could put them at risk.

School system spokesman Keith Bromery said the district will add 49 buses and 850 additional bus stops to existing routes, plus additional crossing guards, in the next several weeks. He said the changes will cost at an estimated $2.8 million.

Officials say parents this week told school board members their children had to walk through neighborhoods they described as dangerous, and they wanted more routes and stops added.
