Clayton Co., Ga. (WAOK/AJC)-According to the AJC, a Clayton County jail inmate died overnight in his cell.
Clayton County Sheriff Kem Kimbrough said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the inmate’s death. The GBI is assisting with the investigation.
The inmate has not been identified because next of kin have not been noitified.
Sheriff Kimbrough said, “Sometime around midnight, the inmate was found unresponsive in his cell” during routine roll call.
The inmate was taken to Southern Regional Medical Center in Riverdale, where he was pronounced dead around 4 a.m., authorities said.
Kimbrough said the inmate, who was in his late 50s, had a history of medical problems.
