SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright says the woman who sped away from police and wrecked, killing her daughter, had a similar high speed chase in Georgia a year ago.
Wright says 26-year-old Errika Shelton refused to stop for an officer along Interstate 85 in northern Georgia last September, starting a 50-mile chase that ended when she ran out of gas.
The sheriff says Shelton also ran from deputies Monday on I-85 in Spartanburg. Her 7-year-old daughter was in the vehicle, and Wright says she was killed when the SUV wrecked as the girl tried to throw a bag of marijuana out the window.
Shelton was released from the hospital to jail on Friday. It wasn’t clear if she had a lawyer.
