ATLANTA (AJC/WAOK) – A man was arrested Thursday after allegedly beating and torturing a Clayton County woman in her own home.

Rakheem Jerome Byrd was taken into custody during a traffic stop while driving the woman’s car.

The woman survived a “severe beating,” according to police, and is now recovering at a hospital.

She told police that she met Byrd at a Tara Boulevard gas station on July 26 and gave him her number. He reportedly arrived at her home uninvited Saturday and attacked her.

Lovejoy police found broken furniture and blood throughout the woman’s home Sunday during the investigation. Police believe that a frying pan was cracked while being used as a weapon to beat the woman. The  woman’s blue 2005 Toyota Corolla was taken.

Lovejoy police used a GBI sketch of the suspect in their search.
