ATLANTA (WAOK)-After a David versus Goliath campaign, opponents of the transportation referendum known as T-SPLOST have defeated the measure by a huge margin.
Supporters of the T-SPLOST had an $8 million budget and a host of well named and well connected business and political leaders campaigning for passage of the one cent tax, but it was the grassroots leaders with less money who won the battle.
The T-SPLOST saw some strange alliances in Democrat Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed pairing with Republican Governor Nathan Deal to ask voters to approve the tax. On the other side a just as strange pairing of the Tea Party and the NAACP formed an alliance to succesfully defeat the measure.
We will have updated results in the morning and followup interviews with the winners and the losers on News and Talk 1380 WAOK.
