UK Actor Who Criticized London Hosting Olympics To Perform At Closing Ceremony
LONDON (CBS Atlanta) — A British comedic actor will perform during the closing ceremony despite ranting that England hosting the Olympics will be a disaster.
According to the Mirror Online, Russell Brand – who has starred in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Arthur” — will perform a comedic version of the Sex Pistols’ “Pretty Vacant,” despite Brand saying London will succumb to the pressure of hosting the Olympics.
“I think we’re under a lot of pressure,” Brand told Conan O’Brien last month on “Conan.” “When China did the Olympics, they really were clearly able to demonstrate the opening ceremony.”
Brand later added that London will not rise to the occasion of hosting the event.
“No way…because we’re too clumsy, we’re too self-effacing,” Brand explained. “When it involves organization, it’s going to be right balls up. Things are going to catch fire, people will be tripping over things, then it will start raining, and the Queen will do a fart.”
The closing ceremony will also feature supermodels putting on a fashion show to honor British designers. The Mirror Online also reports legendary rock band The Who will perform.
The planned London ceremony is a departure from what Atlanta did for its closing ceremony in 1996, which featured performances from John Williams, Boyz II Men and Gloria Estefan.
