Fulton County Commissioner Bill Edwards’ proposal to have Scarborough Road renamed Cam Newton Drive ran into a proverbial stiff arm as residents said thanks but no thanks at public hearing held last night.

Before winning the Heisman trophy and BCS National Championship at Auburn University, Newton played quarterback at West Lake High School in College Park.

The parents of the NFL star still live on the 23 home South Fulton County street.

Commissioner Edwards said he was surprised at the criticism but said he’d find another way to honor the Carolina Panther QB.
