A plane carrying a banner with a message to officials at Penn State flew over campus on Tuesday.  The banner read, “TAKE THE STATUE DOWN OR WE WILL,” a message referring to the bronze enshrinement of the late Penn State football coach Joe Paterno.

Multiple pictures of the banner surfaced on Twitter throughout the day.  It’s unknown who is responsible for the message.  Many have called for the statue to be taken down after the release of last week’s Freeh report regarding the Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal.

The university released a statement on Sunday refuting a report that the statue would remain standing outside Beaver Stadium.
