DOUGLASVILLE, GA (CBS ATL/WAOK) – Douglasville police said two people brutally beat a 3-year-old boy.

Suzi Elie and Chad Pierre-Louis are accused of beating Elie’s 3-year-old son with a stick.

“It was a stick from a tree that had several off-shoot sticks from it. It was more of a small branch,” Detective Clint Ratliff said.

According to witnesses, Elie beat her child with the stick for more than 20 minutes while her boyfriend sat watching. The abuse happened on the side of the road, in a grassy area on Cave Springs Road near Ashton Court.

Several other witnesses that drove by immediately called the police too.

The child has bruises on his body that suggest he has been abused before.

The child is in state custody. Doctors said he does not have any broken bones or internal injuries.

Police charged Elie and her boyfriend with aggravated assault, cruelty to children and battery.
