WEST PALM BEACH, FL (AP/WAOK) - A Florida woman claims ex-neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman molested her when she was a child.
The unidentified woman told investigators in an interview released Monday the abuse began when she was 6 and Zimmerman was about 8. She says she was fondled, groped and kissed numerous times until she was about 16.
She says they would see each other at family gatherings, but their relationship was not clear.
Zimmerman’s attorney, Mark O’Mara, did not respond to a request for comment.
Police and prosecutors did not return telephone calls about whether they plan to use the interview at trial or pursue charges.
In related news, attorneys for Zimmerman have asked for a new judge.
Lawyers for George Zimmerman say the current judge is biased because he said Zimmerman had “flaunted the system.” The criticism came after Zimmerman failed to disclose thousands of dollars from an online defense fund.
In a legal motion, Zimmerman’s defense team says, “the court makes sweeping generalizations about Mr. Zimmerman based on limited information and disregards the evidence that contradicts those conclusions.”
A spokeswoman for the state attorney’s office said in an email Friday that prosecutors object to the defense motion and will file a formal response early next week.
Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Trayvon Martin. He claims he killed the unarmed teen in self-defense.
