ATLANTA (WAOK)-Friends and family members of R&B singer Usher spent the weekend at a local hospital after the Grammy winner’s 11-year-old stepson was critically injured in a jet ski accident on Lake Lanier Friday. The condition of Kyle Glover has deteriorated since he was hospitalized this weekend. Glover and an unidentified 15-year-old girl were being pulled by a pontoon boat in a tube near Holiday Marina when another member of their party crashed into them on the jet ski.
TMZ.com reports doctors have declared Kyle Glover brain dead, with sources explaining that he has experienced no brain activity since being admitted.
Usher reportedly arrived at the hospital Saturday night via private jet. The singer’s estranged wife and Glover’s mother, Tameka Foster, has yet to leave her son’s side. Kyle Glover’s father is Foster’s ex-husband Ryan Glover, president of Bounce TV.
According to Atlanta’s WXIA-TV, Kyle Glover and the 15-year-old girl were riding on an inner tube being pulled by a boat on Lake Lanier. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources says another man riding a jet ski collided with the two children, sending them both to Children’s Healthcare at Egleston Hospital. DNR Sergeant Mike Burgamy says it’s too early to tell if charges will be filed against the jet ski driver, but adds that alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
This has been a deadly summer on Lake Lanier. In June, two young brothers from Gainesville were killed when their pontoon boat was rammed by a boater that DNR police say was “boating while drunk.” Griffin and Jake Prince were buried last week. It took DNR officials 10 days, with help from the FBI, to find the body of 13-year-old Griffin Prince because of the depth and lack of visibility in the lake. And this past weekend a family of five was also rescued when their boat sank after it was capsized by waves created from another boat.
And while his current CD, “Looking 4 Myself,” debuted atop the pop charts, Usher has also had his share of unwelcomed news of late. A stalker was arrested at his Atlanta-area home last month, and he has been engaged in a contentious custody battle over his two sons with Foster.
