MARIETTA, Ga. (AP/WAOK) — A woman has sued the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, saying she lost her baby because of inadequate medical care when she was being held in the county jail.

Taylor Hogan filed a lawsuit against the sheriff’s office, the county and the hospital that provides medical services for the jail. County officials have declined to comment, citing pending litigation.

According to the Associated Press, Hogan says she was five and a half months pregnant when she was held in the jail in August 2010 on a possession of stolen property charge. She says she received inadequate medical care after complaining of severe cramping and ended up delivering her baby in a bathroom. The baby died nine hours later.

Her lawyer accuses jail staff of gross negligence.
