ATLANTA (WAOK) - Beginning this week anyone who needs to renew their drivers license will have to provide more documentation to do so.

The Georgia Secure ID program went into effect on July 1st. Under the new program in order to reinstate or renew a new drivers license three pieces of identification has to be provided.

Customers will need to apply in person at the Department of Driver Services and have a birth certificate, social security card and proof of their residential address.

A current passport, bank statement or a utility bill can also be provided as proof.

The launch of the Secure ID program was announced Tuesday. The governor’s office says the program further ensures the integrity of driver’s licenses and identification cards.

Beginning July 1, customers will need to go to a  customer service center and present their original identification documents. They will have to prove their identity, Social Security number and residential address.
