Man Dies After Crashing Car Into Ice Cream Shop

ATLANTA (CBS ATL/WAOK) – A 21-year-old Georgia State University student died early Wednesday after crashing his car into an ice cream shop at the Underground in downtown Atlanta.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, an officer working near Underground Atlanta heard a loud crash and went to investigate.

Witnesses say the man was driving at a very high speed and seemed to have lost control of his vehicle, causing him to crash his silver Infiniti sideways through the front of the shop.

The victim has been identified as Timothy Nixon, of Atlanta.  Nixon died on the way to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Nixon graduated from South Forsyth High School in Georgia and played at East Tennessee State University before he transferred to Georgia State, where he appeared in 11 soccer matches in the 2011-12 season.

Georgia State soccer coach Brett Surrency said in a statement that Nixon was popular with his teammates and a person that “everyone was drawn to.”
