Atlanta Braves right-hander Brandon Beachy has a partial tear in his elbow and will see Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion.
Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez revealed the results of an MRI exam after Monday night’s 6-2 loss to the New York Yankees. Gonzalez did not elaborate on the severity of the injury.
Beachy is leading the majors with a 2.00 ERA. The 25-year-old is 5-5 in 13 starts in his first big league season.
Beachy was pulled from a start Saturday night and put on the 15-day disabled list the next day and now word has it that Jair Jurrjens will be recalled to start for Atlanta on Friday at Boston.
Jurrjens says he’s “definitely not” planning to be just a fill-in with Atlanta. The pitcher who led the Braves with 13 wins last season says he is determined to take advantage of his renewed confidence and stronger right knee and stick in Atlanta’s rotation.
