BREAKING: Blacks Still Split On Gay Marriage

A new CNN poll today still puts black or “nonwhite” disapproval for gay marriage near the 40 percent range. The CNN/ORC International survey poll says that 39 percent of nonwhites disapprove of same-sex marriage. Respondents were asked: “Do you think marriages between gay and lesbian couples should or should not be recognized by the law as valid, with the same rights as traditional marriages?”

Last month, a similar poll produced the same results, following the nation’s first black president announcing his support for same-sex marriage. President Obama carried almost 100 percent of the black vote in 2008. The poll was conducted from May 29 to 31, 2012. The survey has an “error rate of plus or minus three percentage points, with a sampling error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points for registered voters,” according to CNN.
