ATLANTA (WAOK)-Dozens of East Coast bus companies are being shut down by federal authorities.  The U.S. Department of Transportation cited multiple safety violations in issuing the order against 26 bus operators.  Federal regulators claimed the bus lines used drivers who didn’t have valid commercial licenses and didn’t properly repair or inspect their vehicles.

The Department of Transportation says the operators took passengers from New York to Florida.  Officials say Apex Bus, I-95 Coach and New Century Travel oversaw the other bus operators that were placed under the shutdown order.  Apex and I-95 Coach run bus routes out of the Atlanta area to several east coast cities. Greyhound bus is offering special fares of $1 to customers of the other bus lines to assist in their travel.
