The Boston Celtics raced out to a 15-point lead in the first half Wednesday night and Rajon Rondo finished with a playoff career-high 44 points. But it wasn’t enough as the Miami Heat took a two-games-to-none lead in the NBA’s Eastern Conference finals with a 115-111 overtime victory over the Celtics.
LeBron James scored 34 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the Heat’s biggest comeback win in franchise playoff history. James almost won it in regulation but missed a pair of shots in the closing seconds. Dwyane Wade finished with 23 points and Mario Chalmers added 22 to help Miami protect home-court advantage.
Rondo shot 16-for-24 and provided 10 assists and eight rebounds while playing all 53 minutes. Paul Pierce had 21 points and Ray Allen added 13, including a game-tying three-pointer with 34.3 seconds left in regulation. Kevin Garnett chipped in 18 points and eight rebounds but missed 12 of his 18 shots.
The series shifts to Boston for Game 3 on Friday.
