ATLANTA (AP/WAOK) - The parents of a Florida A&M drum major who died during a hazing ritual say they are having a hard time believing other band members’ statements to detectives that Robert Champion volunteered to be hazed.

Pam and Robert Champion Sr. said at a news conference Wednesday their son had always been opposed to hazing.

They held the news conference to respond to the thousands of pages of detective interviews released by Orlando prosecutors on Wednesday.

Eleven band members face third-degree felony hazing charges, and two others face misdemeanor counts in Champion’s death last November.
