Opium Plants Seized In Winder

WINDER, Ga. (AP) — Winder Police have seized about 900 opium plants at a home after responding to a report of a hit-and-run accident.

The Gwinnett Daily Post reports (http://bit.ly/IQAFgi) witnesses gave police a tag number and physical description of a vehicle that left the scene of an accident Saturday at about 3:30 p.m. Officers responded to a residence and the homeowner led them to the rear of the property, where a vehicle was parked matching the witnesses’ description.

There, the responding officer noticed a large quantity of the opium plant. Police detained several residents of the home and seized the plants.

Criminal charges are pending.
