ATLANTA (AP/WAOK) — Atlanta fire officials say the structure of a building at filmmaker Tyler Perry’s studio is fine after part of it caught fire, sending flames into the night sky.

Fire Capt. Jolyon Bundrige says there were no reports of injuries from the blaze that started before 9 p.m. Tuesday and burned through the building’s exterior surface.

Close to 100 fire fighters responded to fight the blaze which also caused the evacuation of a senior citizen apartment building. Bundrige says firefighters were able to limit the damage because the building is broken up into sections.

He says the cause of the four-alarm blaze and the amount of damage to the complex was not immediately known. Firefighters checked the area throughout the night for any hot spots.

A spokesman for Perry didn’t immediately comment Tuesday evening. Tyler Perry was on the grounds of the studio complex when the fire happened. Perry did not make any statements to reporters.

The studio’s website says the complex includes a 200,000-square-foot studio, five sound stages and a 400-seat theater in southwest Atlanta. Tyler Perry opened the studio in 2008.  Perry is a multi media mogul and philanthropist who has produced and starred in various movies, television shows and plays. Perry recently hosted a fund raising reception for President Barack Obama at the studio located near Greenbriar Mall and at his home in the Vinings area.
