ATLANTA (AP/WAOK) – A man and his son were released from jail after sheriff’s officials say they held guns on the parents of a new homeowner, who were changing the locks to prepare for their son’s move.
45-year-old Robert Canoles and his 18-year-old son, Branden, were released on bond Tuesday night. They were charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment and trespassing.
Authorities say the father and son grabbed rifles and snuck up on Jean-Joseph Kalonji and his wife, Angelica. The Kalonjis were changing locks on the home their son Bruno Kalonji had purchased.
The Kalonjis tried to tell the Canoles they were new neighbors, but couldn’t produce documents to verify it.
Newton County sheriff’s deputies initially praised the Canoles for their armed response to a suspected burglary next door.
