Twenty Thousand Dollar PTA Theft Under Investigation

ATLANTA –  (WAOK/AJC)  –  Atlanta police are investigating a $20,  000 dollar theft from the PTA at E. Rivers Elementary School in Buckhead.   A spokeswoman for the PTA at the school,  would neither confirm the amount nor discuss who allegedly stole the funds.   Parent,   Molly Epstein,  said the person who allegedly took the funds did not work for E. Rivers or for the Atlanta Public Schools.   The theft reportedly involved funds that Peachtree Road United Methodist Church had donated to the PTA.     A regularly scheduled meeting of the PTA  is expected tonight at a church across the street from the school.   Police investigators say the money was reported missing last month,   after an audit and say  that the checks,  in excess of $20,000, were deposited into a bank account at Signature Bank.   Police have learned that the person suspected in the theft worked at the bank,  but is no longer employed there.
