Cobb County Might Lay Off 200 Teachers
MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) — Cobb County school board members have been told the system might have to lay off 200 teachers to ease a budget deficit.
The Marietta Daily Journal reports that school board members were told of the possible layoffs during a Wednesday meeting.
Board members spent more than an hour talking with Chief Financial Officer Mike Addison about ways to deal with the $62.4 million deficit the district is facing in the next fiscal year.
Addison recommended cutting 350 staff positions; increasing class sizes by two students; increasing the number of furlough days from two to five; and reducing the number of school days to 175 from 178, among other measures.
