PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. (CBS Atlanta) — Authorities say a middle school student was arrested after she pierced her friend’s belly button at school.

The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office brought the 12-year-old girl into custody on March 28.

Cpl. Ashley Henson told CBS Atlanta that a student from Moses Middle School came forward saying that a student had pierced the naval of her friend in the school’s bathroom.

“When they confronted the suspect, she admitted what had occurred,” Henson said, adding that authorities confiscated needles, alcohol pads, surgical clamps and barbs from the girl.

It is illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to get tattooed or pierced without their parent’s permission in Georgia.

Henson said that the girl bought the items on the Internet and learned how to do the piercing by watching a video on YouTube.

The girl has been charged with piercing the body of a minor and reckless conduct.
