DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — DeKalb County police are investigating the shooting death of an 18-year-old man outside an apartment complex.

WSB-TV reports (http://bit.ly/GO6sQG) that two apartment security guards working at a nearby complex told police they were checking out a suspicious car around 10:30 p.m. when they heard gunfire coming from Ervin Jefferson’s home.

The guards told police they saw Jefferson leave the home and walk toward them aggressively while making threats to kill. That’s when they say they opened fire on the teen.

Jefferson’s family told WSB-TV that Jefferson also may have been hit by a car.

Police say they are interviewing the guards, who also say they heard more gunfire coming from the house after they killed Jefferson.

DeKalb County police didn’t immediately return calls or emails seeking further comment.
