Flight From Atlanta Diverted

KENNER, La. (WAOK/AP)— There were some tense moments on a flight from Atlanta on Wednesday. Officials say a fuel leak  caused an AirTran Airways flight to be diverted to the airport in New Orleans.

Southwest Airlines Co. spokesman Chris Mainz says Flight 295 left Atlanta at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday and landed at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Kenner, La., without incident after the pilot saw that he was low on fuel.

Mainz said a fuel leak was found in one of the engines of the Boeing 717, which was carrying 74 passengers and five crewmembers.

Mainz said there was no fire from the leak and passengers transferred to another plane that arrived at 1:45 p.m. at Houston Hobby Airport.

Southwest recently purchased AirTran and is in the process of merging its system into Southwest’s.
