More “black history” may be made this month on Sunday Feb. 26 as the 84th Academy Awards take place in Hollywood California. Best actress nominee, Viola Davis and best supporting actress nominee, Octavia Spencer are both in the running for Oscar’s for their performances in the movie The Help. They could very well make history by being the first African American females to win Ocar’s from these categories on the same night. This wouldn’t be the first time that the Academy has given two African Americans their most prestigious awards. Halley Berry won the award for best actress and Denzel Washington won for best actor in 2002. If Spencer and Davis win, this will be the first time two African American women take home the gold! Do you think they will do it? I’ve crossed my heart, fingers and toes with the hope that these ladies will crack open the Academy door just a little further.
