Fulton County Inmates Paying Up To $1000 For Cell Phones

ATLANTA (WAOK)- Ten cell phones were found smuggled into Fulton County Jail cells in the past two weeks, adding to the nearly 100 phones found over the last eight months.

Four jail officers were arrested in June for smuggling contraband into inmates, and jail commander Colonel Mark Adger said inmates are paying officers between 400- and one-thousand-dollars for the phones. Adger said the jail has purchased equipment to detect the phones and that inmates are being allowed less personal items in their cells.

One phone was found after an inmate was reportedly making threatening calls to someone outside of the jail.
