Black History Month: Great Migration Exhibit

WASHINGTON (AP) – In celebration of Black History Month, Amtrak is featuring a Great Migration of African Americans exhibit on its MyBlackJourney.com microsite. The exhibit tells the story of the movement of thousands of African Americans from the rural South aboard trains to the Northeast and other parts of the country in search of better wages and job opportunities.

On the site, actor Lamman Rucker of Tyler Perry’s “House of Payne” which is taped in Atlanta, shares his family’s Great Migration train journey from Lynchburg, Virginia to New Jersey. There’s also other commentary about the migration’s historical significance.

MyBlackJourney.com is a microsite that promotes information regarding popular African American cultural destinations.
