Preview Of Oysterfest Event’s In Atlanta
February is Oyster Month in Atlanta. While folklore says you should only eat oysters in months that contain an “r”, it is safe to eat oysters all year long, but some months are better than others. Oysters have been a staple in the southern part of the country for years and Southerners eat them by the ton. February is the perfect month to honor the oysters and those who love to eat them with various parties and deals all over town all month long.
Park Tavern Oysterfest
Date: February 11, 2012
Hours: 12 p.m. – Close
Price: $10 – $30
Kicking off the month of February’s first Oysterfest is the Park Tavern. Located at one of Atlanta’s most beautiful and accessible spots, Piedmont Park, Park Tavern will construct an 8,000 square foot heated tent, so that festivities will be in full swing, rain or shine. Rock the day and night away with local band “The Issues” and a host of other great musical acts. Oysterfest sounds like a typical rock and roll festival in a park until you add one key ingredient, oysters. According to Park Tavern owner, Paul Smith, the restaurant ships in 4,000 lbs of fresh oysters from Connecticut, Prince Edward Island and Texas. With gallons and gallons of beer to wash down all those oysters, the only thing event organizers worry about running out of is space. They advise you to get your tickets in advance and come early as it gets crowded. Around 6 p.m. the block dance party takes over with an 80s cover band that can’t be beat. If you come, they guarantee you will get your full and of course have a lot of fun.
