ATLANTA (AP) — It was a banner year for births at Zoo Atlanta.
Zoo officials say nearly 260 babies were born in 2011, including two tiger cubs, a giraffe and a gorilla. Other new arrivals included a chinchilla, a kangaroo and a Burmese black tortoise.
In all, there were 56 were mammals, 121 were reptiles, 81 were birds and one amphibian born in 2011. The latest little one to make a public debut was Beauregard the bongo, who is now almost two months old.
Visitors can also get a look at Po, the zoo’s giant panda cub born in November 2010.
Only four U.S. zoos have giant pandas, which are leased from China: Atlanta; Memphis, Tenn.; San Diego and Washington, D.C.
