Union City, Ga (WAOK)-Dozens of people showed up last night at a Union City council meeting to protest the death of 19 yr old Ariston Waiters  was killed by a police officer last month. Waiters was unarmed when he was shot twice in the back on December 4.

Union City police released a report over the weekend that said Waiters died after he struggled with the officer and reached for the officers weapon. Witnesses said Waiters was shot while running away from the police. Waiters’ family and supporters do not believe the police version of the story.

Last night protestors became vocal at one point shouting at city officials, particularly the mayor who the family says still  has not spoken to the family about the shooting. As soon as Union City Mayor Ralph Moore said that the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office completed their investigation into the shooting of Waiters, council woman Angelette Mealing intervened.

Last night councilwoman Mealing called for an investigation into the entire police department. Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard is investigating the case. The family of Ariston Waiters is expected to meet with the DA today.
