First the departure of both offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey and defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder, now it appears the Atlanta Falcons could possibly lose several of their top defensive players to free agency.
Atlanta has close to 20 players that can become free agents within the next six weeks, 17 of the will be unrestricted free agents including: Todd McClure, Chris Redman, Harry Douglas, Jason Snelling, and Eric Weems.
Falcons’ linebacker Curtis Lofton, DE John Abraham, safety Thomas DeCoud, and CB Brent Grimes could also become free agents and ultimately land somewhere other than Atlanta.
With all of the possible turnover within the franchise it’s very possible that we could see the Falcons take another step backwards. Just a year ago the team finished 13-3 followed by this year’s 10-6 campaign, it wouldn’t shock me at all to see the Falcons finish next season 9-7, 8-8, or even 7-9.
At this point I know I’m not the only one interested in seeing the rabbit or rabbits that Mr. Blank is gonna pull out if his hat to replace VanGorder and Mularkey.
