Let the unraveling continue…
Just one day after defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder left the Atlanta Falcons to join the staff at Auburn, Mike Mularkey the team’s offensive coordinator is now the new head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jags sent a Twitter message last night announcing their decision, Mularkey will be introduced at a press conference today.
The funny thing about this hiring is the fact that the Jaguars basically have zero weapons outside of Maurice Jones-Drew compared to Mularkey’s group here in Atlanta that only managed two points in last week’s game versus the New York Giants.
Is this a safe hire for the Jags who are desperately looking to turn their franchise around?
How do you have Tony Gonzalez, Roddy White, Julio Jones, Michael Turner, Matt Ryan, and Harry Douglas and only manage two points?
This hire just seems so wrong for Jacksonville yet so good for Falcons’ fans; here’s a guy who obviously can’t coach his way out of a bottle and he’s been given the keys to someone’s franchise?
Mularkey was head coach of the Buffalo Bills, where he went 14-18 he was fired after the 2005 season.
The Jaguars are said to be very impressed with the job Mularkey has done with Matt Ryan and the organization hopes he can do the same with first year QB Blaine Gabbert.
This must be a team that isn’t too hard to impress… The Jaguars’ upper brass did see Matt Ryan and the Mularkey offense Sunday didn’t they?
