So while everyone was watching the BCS National Championship Game I kept finding myself flipping back and forth so that I could check out the Atlanta Hawks on the road versus the New Jersey Nets. Not that I didn’t think Atlanta would win but it’s almost nostalgic to see the hometown team actually win playing team ball versus the tendencies of each player doing their own thing a la Iso-Joe.
In a season where most teams have had more downs than ups the Atlanta Hawks remain consistent.
Josh Smith looks as if he’s ready to become the leader that everyone had hoped he would become at some point last night he recorded a game-high 26 points and grabbed six rebounds in the Hawks 106-101 win over the Nets at the Prudential Center.
The Nets led by Deron Williams’ double-double of 15 points and 14 assists, along with Anthony Morrow’s 20 points went on a run late in the game that nearly forced overtime however Joe Johnson hit a pair of free throws that closed the game out for Atlanta now winners of three in a row.
Johnson finished the game with 22 points and point guard Jeff Teague scored 20 points for the 7-and-3 Hawks.
The Nets have lost two in a row and are currently 2-and-8 on the season.
