Morgan State University has suspended men’s basketball coach Todd Bozeman pending an investigation into a weekend incident. It happened near the end of the Bear’s road victory at South Carolina State on Saturday.
Bozeman says he made “accidental contact” with senior guard Larry Bastfield, although South Carolina State’s president, who was at the game, summoned campus police to see if the player wanted to press charges.
Dr. George Cooper and others thought Bozeman had punched Bastfield in the face. The school has ordered the coach to return to Baltimore from Georgia where Morgan State will play Savannah State tonight.
Bozeman’s also been told to have no contact for the time being with any of his players or assistants. Bozeman tells the “Baltimore Sun” he did not hit Bastfield and that those making the allegation are, quote, “completely off the charts.”
Bastfield also says the incident has been blown out of proportion.
