Police: Elderly Woman Disappeared Outside Atlanta During Freezing Night

SUWANEE, Ga. (AP) — Police and volunteers were searching for a missing elderly woman feared to have wandered from her son’s home in Gwinnett County.

If 72-year-old Chang Petersen is outdoors, it would be on the worst possible night as temperature plunged well below freezing.

The Gwinnett Daily Post reports the search Tuesday morning was focused on Rock Springs Park. Authorities say she was last seen Monday afternoon at the park. Several officers and a bloodhound unit were involved in the search.

Investigators tell WSB-TV that Petersen disappeared from her son’s home, less than a mile from the park.

Gwinnett County police said Petersen suffers from a mild case of dementia. Cpl. Jake Smith says it’s not typical for her to wander off.

She was last seen wearing a brown parka and dark pants.
