Woman Convicted In Deadly Arson Fire

ATLANTA – (WAOK) A Clayton county jury has convicted a woman for arson and murder, after she set a fire that killed five members of the same family.
45-year old Sheree Dionne “Queenie” Murphy could get life in prison for the June 2007 arson deaths at the Budget Inn Motel, in Riverdale. Authorities say she set the fire, because she was mad at a drug dealer, who stayed at the motel. Investigators say a canine helped detect an accelerant used to set the fire.
Five people, 32-year old Shikita Jones, her children, 11-year old Devon Butler Jr., 10-year old Desha Butler, her fiance, 26-year old Fred Colton, Jr. and her uncle 43-year old Melvin Jones, who was in town for the couple’s wedding, all died. Four other people were hurt, including Jones’ older daughter Shae’von, who was severely burned. Prosecutors say Murphy, who will be sentenced in January, poured lighter fluid on some mattresses and set them on fire.
