According to Yahoo! Sports the San Antonio Spurs are using the amnesty clause to eliminate Richard Jefferson’s contract from their salary cap.
Under the new collective bargaining agreement that players and owners agreed to earlier this month, teams can waive one player from their current roster and remove that contract from their salary cap.
The 30 year old Jefferson has three-years and $30 million remaining on his contract.
Much like the NFL’s waiver wire, NBA team’s will be allowed to place bids on Jefferson during the amnesty waiver process.
In 81 games last season Jefferson averaged 11 points and 1.3 assists per game for the Spurs.
