Todd Grantham’s Georgia defense was ready to take the lead.
Georgia’s top tailback, Isaiah Crowell, lasted only two carries on Saturday against Kentucky before leaving with an ankle injury. Crowell’s top backup, Carlton Thomas, did not play after breaking a team rule.
That wasn’t the plan, especially with a spot in the Southeastern Conference championship game on the line.
It’s a good thing for No. 13 Georgia that Grantham’s defense delivered again in the 19-10 win over Kentucky.
Georgia ranks No. 2 in the nation against the run, behind only Alabama, in Grantham’s second year as defensive coordinator. It ranks No. 4 in total defense and No. 11 in scoring defense after holding Kentucky to 23 yards rushing on 21 carries and 165 total yards.
