Today marks 20 years since basketball star Magic Johnson announced he had HIV, the virus that leads to AIDS.

Since his surprise announcement, he has not only survived, but he has thrived and achieved much to educate the public about HIV and AIDS.  Johnson retired from pro basketball immediately after his announcement, but he did return for the 1992 All-Star Game and the Olympics in Barcelona.  He created the Magic Johnson Foundation.  The charity has not only raised HIV/AIDS awareness, but has also benefited urban, minority communities in a variety of ways.  People can make a ten-dollar donation to the Magic Johnson Foundation today by texting “Magic” to 80888.
