The Sports Kings: J-Dub’s Journal “NFL South Mid-Season Report”
Here is the mid-season report of the Southern Divisions of the NFL including your hometown Atlanta Falcons:
4th Place Indianapolis Colts 0-8, 0-2 in the Division:
Pros: I’m not really sure…they have Reggie Wayne and Dwight Freeney, Cons: No Peyton Manning, Defense has self-destructed; Offensive line is injury prone, Final prediction: 2-14, Last in the Division
3rd Place Jacksonville Jaguars 2-6, 1-1 in the Division:
Pros: Defense is playing inspired football, Maurice Jones-Drew is still running hard, Cons: As Blaine Gabbert has been implemented into the offense the production of Marcedes Lewis has declined, particularly because of no deep threat, Final prediction: They finish 3rd in the Division.
2nd Place Tennessee Titans 4-3, 1-2 in the Division:
Pros: Matt Hasselbeck has played inspired football with this new team, tough-minded squad, Cons: Chris Johnson is not playing up to his normal standards; Defense is tough but tends to give up the big play in clutch situations, Final prediction: 2nd in the Division.
1st Place Houston Texans 5-3, 3-0 in the Division:
Pros: Among the best teams in the league at scoring points, balanced attack with Matt Schaub and Arian Foster, Defense is much improved under Wade Philips, Cons: Offense sometimes cannot get on track, major injuries to key players such as Foster and Mario Williams, Final prediction: They finally get over the hump and win this Division.
4th Place Carolina Panthers 2-6, 0-2 in the Division:
Pros: Cam Newton is playing better than anyone could have anticipated, Steve Smith has re-energized his career, Defense is playing well, this team has been in every game, Cons: Cam Newton must clean up his mistakes in critical situations, must find more balance on offense by improving the running game, Final prediction: They will beat some people this year but still finish 4th in the Division.
3rd Place Atlanta Falcons 4-3, 1-1 in the Division:
Pros: Defense is playing better by creating pass rush, Michael Turner is running well now that the offense is playing with more balance, Cons: Offensive staff must figure out a way to play when Julio Jones returns from injury, Defense must get stops particularly on 3rd down, Final prediction: If they master the balance needed to win in the NFL then they can win this division, but I do not think they will, 2nd place.
2nd Place Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-3, 2-0 in the Division:
Pros: Defense is playing well and not giving up the big play, Offensively, they do not make the big mistake and keeps themselves in games, Cons: Lack of big play ability and explosiveness in the passing game, Final prediction: 3rd in the Division.
1st Place New Orleans Saints 5-3, 1-1 in the Division:
Pros: Still a great offensive football team, especially with the addition of Darren Sproles, Defensively, they can rush the passer, Cons: The team is playing up and down football, seems to have been effected by Coach Sean Payton’s injury and calling plays from the booth, Drew Brees making timely mistakes, Final prediction: Saints will win the Division but will have to beat back the Falcons to do it.
